November 2010 Update

The Commission has signed a contract with SeaStar Survey of Southampton for them to carry out survey operations in the area of the South Bank in the Alderney Race. The survey will include an acoustic survey to establish the geophysical parameters of the Bank as well as camera surveys and sea bed sampling. SeaStar will be carrying out the operations during suitable weather and tidal windows over the next months.

The survey is to provide baseline data to allow the Commission to fulfil part of its statutory obligations to monitor the Environmental impact of the deployment of tidal turbines by a developer.  Developing a programme of independent monitoring of any change will allow the Commission to ensure that Alderney’s environment is protected by early identification of any such changes.
