Hydrology Research Project

The Commission is pleased to report that at the beginning of November 2010 it entered into a contract with the University of Southampton to carry out a hydrology research project.  The research will be carried out by the Sustainable Energy Research Group at the University under the supervision of Professor A. S. Bahaj and Dr. L. S. Blunden. The research programme is for two and a half years and will investigate the effects that arrays of tidal energy devices will have on tidal flow through the Alderney Race in order to identify any changes to the movement of sediment in the area.  This contract is part of the Commission’s ongoing work programme to fulfil its duty to protect the marine environment.
