Completion of Alderney South Banks study by Southampton University
The University of Southampton has successfully completed a research study of Alderney’s South Banks. The three year study aimed to assess the impact of proposed tidal energy arrays upon the sand banks. To achieve this, hydrodynamic and sediment transport numerical models were developed to accurately define the sand banks in terms of tidal flow regime, sediment dynamics and sand bank morphology. These models were then used to identify potential impacts upon the sand banks from tidal energy array development.
This study is part of the Commission’s ongoing survey programme to establish baseline environmental data to assist in future environmental impact assessments. An overview of the project is now available to download via the Library section of the Commission website.
